Frequently Asked Questions

Petite Clip FAQ’s

Petite Clip is completely portable and can be used almost anywhere baby may fall asleep. It is clipped to baby’s diaper so it will go wherever baby goes. Petite Clip is battery operated, does not require any cords, cables or mains connections. IMPORTANT: Use the monitor only when baby is in a motionless area. Do not use in car seat, stroller, swing or mobile carrier while they are moving, as their motion negates the functionality of the monitor.
The device should remain in good contact with baby’s tummy throughout the monitoring period. A properly fitted diaper is essential for the proper function of your Petite Clip. See “Fitting your monitor” in the User Guide. Petite Clip can also be used clipped onto the waistband of elasticated pants and on a thin layer of clothing separating the sensor from the skin, as long as the movement sensor is snugly fitted in the baby’s tummy area. When fitting on baby’s clothing (over the diaper) set the device to “Sensitive Mode”.
When clipped on the front of baby’s diaper, the sensor will rest softly on baby’s tummy so it can detect even the slightest of movements. Babysense Petite Clip constantly monitors baby’s movements and activates a gentle vibrating stimulation if no tummy movement is detected at all for a period of 15 seconds. In some cases, such tactile stimulation is enough to reassert baby’s movement, and in this case Petite Clip will revert to monitoring mode. If no further movement is detected for another 5 seconds, a sound and visual alarm is activated to alert a caretaker.
Babysense 5s is an under the mattress movement monitoring system best suited for use in cribs, bassinets and travel cots with a firm base. The 5s is portable as it runs strictly on batteries and has no mains connections. The Petite Clip takes this portability to a new level. Petite Clip attaches to the front of baby’s diaper so baby’s tummy movements are being constantly monitored practically anywhere they fall asleep.
Yes. The Petite Clip is designed for baby’s safety and for your peace of mind. It is battery operated so has no cords, cables or mains connections to potentially harm baby. Petite Clip does not transmit or receive any electromagnetic waves so you can be assured baby is safe.
No. Petite Clip is a baby care aid, not a medical device. It is not intended for the diagnosis, prevention or monitoring of a disease or handicap. Petite Clip does not replace responsible and proper adult supervision of your baby.
Petite Clip is recommended for healthy infants, ages 0 – 12 months.
Health organizations worldwide recommend always laying baby on their back, as part of a safe sleep environment. Should baby roll over on their tummy the Petite Clip will still be in touch with their tummy and will detect their movements. The Petite Clip can be positioned off to one side of baby’s diaper for more comfortable sleeping should they roll over onto their tummy. The monitor must be positioned so that it can still detect tummy movements. In the instance of babies who may roll onto their tummies, be sure to set the monitor on “Sensitive Mode”. Because the alarm is contained within the monitor itself, the sound may be muffled if it is underneath baby. In this instance an audio monitor might be necessary.
Yes. Petite Clip will work on cloth diapers as long as the sensor located on the clip stays in close contact with baby’s tummy. See “Fitting your monitor” in the User Guide.
Yes. When you are no longer using your Petite Clip, always store the product safely to avoid damage. We recommend removing the battery and storing in a dry shaded place. Do not place heavy objects on the monitor and avoid shocks. If you choose to reuse the monitor again ensure you read all the instructions and test the product carefully in accordance with user instructions. See “Daily Performance Test” in the User Guide.
No. It is a Non Rechargeable Battery. DO NOT CHARGE IT! The Petite Clip SHOULD ONLY BE USED with the primary lithium battery SAFT LS 14250 (3.6V, 1.2 AHR Battery) as included in the package.
To replace the battery, follow the instructions on our website: www.babysense.co.it/petite
Petite Clip is designed to pick up only the tummy movements of the baby it is clipped to. However, if there are external movements where baby is sleeping, those movements could potentially negate the functionality of the monitor.

Babysense 5s FAQ’s

Babysense was the first of the “new age” movement monitors. It was developed and patented in Israel in 1991 and is the most highly experienced monitor. All derivations which are available today on the market are a result of this breakthrough in development.

Even Super-Mom needs to sleep well. No caregiver can watch over the infant at all times. Babysense is an unique safety monitoring system that increases a caregiver’s sense of comfort and provides them with piece of mind knowing their infant is being constantly monitored.

Unlike other monitoring devices, only Babysense will not reset. Once the alarm is triggered, it can be stopped only by the parents by switching the Babysense monitor off. Recovery of movement can’t stop the alarm. This ensures that even a single “non-movement” episode will alert the parents.

Babysense is versatile, portable and can be taken anywhere without restriction as it is operated on 4 AA batteries with an approximate life of 6-8 months.
Babysense does not replace parent or caregiver. It is an attention-calling device, a parent’s or caregiver’s aid. It cannot solve all problems, it cannot actively take action. It can only call out attention if it registers a respiratory distress. This may provide critical time to intervene.

The Babysense monitor operates on 4 AA batteries so there are no exposed extension cords or wires which can pose a safety hazard. Babysense carries complete CE registration as a Class II Medical Device. Our first commitment is to your infant’s safety  and we made the unit simple, safe to use, and affordable for home use. Babysense monitors are reliably used in hundreds of hospitals worldwide.

Babysense is marketed with two large highly sensitive sensor pads. Two sensor pads cover the entire area of a standard sized crib or cot and ensure lower risk for “false alarms”. When using in hospitals or at home for infants not yet able to crawl, one sensor pad can be used.

When infant begins to move around and is able to move onto areas not covered by the sensor pad, the second pad must be connected.

Babysense is more than just a commonly known MOVEMENT MONITOR!

All other devices are only simple movement monitoring devices. Their alarm sounds if movement isn’t sensed after 20 seconds. Thus caregivers will not be notified about potential threats before the actual cessation of movement.

Babysenses’ algorithms register the actual rate of movement, not only its presence but also its absence. Babysense alarms when no micro-movement is detected for more than 20 seconds or if the movement rate slows to less than 10 movements per minute. Caregivers can be alerted about a potential threat before it strikes, giving critical time to intervene.

Also, unlike other monitoring devices, only Babysense will not reset. Once the alarm is triggered, it can be stopped only by switching the Babysense monitor off. Recovery of movement can’t stop the alarm. This ensures that even a single “non-movement” episode will alert the parents.

Your infant’s safety comes first – Babysense is not connected to the power mains, and all cords are passive. The control unit hangs on infants’ crib/cot side, away from reach at all times, with no need to be close to an electrical outlet.

Babysense is versatile, portable and can be taken anywhere without restriction as it is operated on 4 AA batteries with an approximate life of 6-8 months.

Babysense is designed to work optimally with most mattresses that are standard for infant cribs.  In foam or spring mattresses there is no thickness restriction.  If using straw stuffed mattresses, ideally, the thickness must be under 4 inches (10cm.). We do not recommend using memory foam mattresses because they will reduce the amount of movements that can be monitored.

Yes!

Your Babysense monitor is extremely portable and can be used with most bed types as long as the base is rigid and a suitable mattress is used.
We recommend, for all bed types, that a plywood base of a minimum of 3/8 inch thickness be utilized to support the sensor pads.

NO!

Babysense sensor pads are placed under the mattress and have no direct contact with the infant.
For ensuring optimum sensitivity – infant should be placed on the mattress over the area covered by the sensor pad/s.

No!

In order to insure safe and accurate monitoring of your infants, you will need to have babies in separate cribs/cots, each with its own Babysense monitor.

Absolutely, since the unit is activated on batteries, there is no dependence on voltage or electrical power supply. It is important to do a routine testing of the device in a new setup to avoid any disturbance to the sensors.

Due to the extreme sensitivity of Babysense, it may be influenced by vibrations caused by fans, wind, a/c, vehicle movements and so forth. Vibrating household sources (washing machine, loud music, train) may also be picked up by the movement sensor on a similar level to that of slight movements, thus preventing or delaying alarm activation.

Babysense is recommended until 1 year of age and cannot be used for children or adults.

Babysense can be stored in a dry place, preferably packed in its original box, without batteries and without external pressure on the sensor pads. It can be used again when the time comes for the next baby, but we strongly recommend checking the stability of the sensor pads in our service laboratory, or replacing the sensor pads every two years .  You can contact us directly at 877-780-3033 for more information.

  • Always insert 4 AA NEW alkaline batteries.
  • When monitor is in use, do not attach crib mobile or other moving toy to infant’s bed/crib/cot (they can easily be mounted on the wall over the crib).
  • Do not put any additional infant or pet in the bed.
  • Keep the sensor pads away from source of heat.
  • Wrap sensor cord around crib posts and OUT OF REACH OF BABY to avoid danger of loose cords.
  • Bed base should be rigid (plywood) to ensure the sensor pad and mattress are tightly pressed together.
  • When not in use over long periods, always remove batteries from the device and store in a dry shaded place.
  • Be aware of environmental movements within the room as they may affect the unit.
